“I’ve been falling since I was five. This is the first time I’ve landed on my feet.”
Kim didn’t respond. She simply turned and walked away, her perfume lingering like smoke in her wake.
Skyler appeared moments later, holding a plate with a cupcake and a single unlit candle.
“What’s this?” Aurora asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Your unofficial initiation,” Skyler said, setting it down. “You’ve been reborn, sweetheart. Might as well celebrate it.”
Aurora stared at the candle. “I don’t know what to wish for.”
“Then don’t wish,” Skyler said. “Just blow it out like you own the damn night.”
