“What colour do you want to start with?” “At least let me get dressed for this.” Seeing he’s pretending to not hear a word I say, I sigh. “White.” He hands me the white bag. It’s heavier than expected. When I peek inside, something catches in my throat. No way. I reach in and slowly pull out a hardcover novel — the limited edition. Bonus chapters. Character art. Gilded edges. The kind of cover you touch like it’s holy. It only released last month and costs more than my dignity. I’ve had it bookmarked in every browser tab like a prayer.

Derek was trying to reassure himself more than anything. Anya walked through the castle halls, the bright red carpet was soft to the touch. Her toes squished into it as she stepped. The beautiful white marble shows from underneath , a border around the carpet and walls. The beautiful ivory white walls were painted to perfection and the crown trim was painted the same bright red as the carpet. Every few feet was a very clean table with a beautiful planted plant that was lively and happy. Some are flowers, some succulents and a few grass like plants. She didn’t care for those so much but there were very few of them.

Kendra motions us to have a seat, and then she takes out a large book from the shelves, we flinch as the book hits the table with a thud. Impatience is eating me raw, my fingers are practically itching at the thought of getting my hands on it. On the cover there is a one of a kind weird design, one that I’ve seen before, but where? I run my fingertips over it, trying to remember. And then it hits me, it’s the design from the compass pendant that Jasper gave Kylie.

It's a novel, one that isn't part of her literature class and the title- 'One night with the playboy' "A night with the casa nova?! Seriously?" She jolted but quickly recovered and looked at me with a shy smile as she closed the novel, bookmarking it with her pen. God! Whatever that story is about clearly isn't age appropriate and what sort of story cover is that? Shouldn't stuff like that be censored? More importantly, how on earth did she get those sneaky little hands of hers on that? I did see a familiar signature on the left top side but where have I seen it before?... oh, now I remember, it's Lisa's.

She was just a reader—hungry for escape. She paused when her eyes landed on a cover that practically glowed under the soft overhead light. A werewolf love novel. The title was in cursive silver: Moonbound Desire. The cover featured a fierce, shirtless alpha holding a trembling woman in his arms, both cloaked by moonlight and mystery. It was utterly ridiculous—and exactly what she needed. Ryleigh pulled it from the shelf and smiled to herself. She checked it out at the front desk with Miss Ada, who glanced at the cover and gave her a knowing look but didn’t say a word.

Tasha wiggled her brows at her. “Yes, awesome news!” Irene couldn’t hold her excitement as she stamped her feet impatiently, “okay…” Elle smiled back at her friend, urging her to continue, “Capriana Publication is branching out,” She announced it with a wide smile, “The new branch will take up the ‘Romance’ genre,” She screamed with excitement, “And I’ll be the Editor in chief!” “That's great news! Congratulations!” Elle clapped her hands together thrilled by the news. “Finally, you achieved it! Congratulations!” Tasha jumped with joy.

Most of the covers were just black with huge fonts on the front covers in a language l didn't understand. I screwed up my nose as l looked further down in to the shelves. As l took a thin book from the last shelf , l noticed the difference in it from all the books. While most of the books had grey and yellow pages and we're in fragile condition , this book was a paperback with white pages untouched. It looked brand new and in English.

And just like that, the covers of all four books–Nyllan’s complete works–were suddenly before me. The first book held the cover image of a seedling, a plant in its infancy; at birth. The second cover showed a green, growing bud, finding its potential and bursting through the surface of the earth. The last had been a withering blossom, brown and decaying in death. In tandem, they represented birth, growth, and death. An unassuming, unsophisticated testament of the life cycle.

Besides, Eli has been acting standoffish today, and I think he’s just trying to make it seem like we have more to do than have sex. But right now… I can’t think of much else to do. “What about your book?” he asks me, eyeing my novel. “That looks kind of silly, too. Why does that dude on the front cover have his shirt open, blowing in the wind? Does he shave his chest to make it look so smooth?” I pick up my book and look at the cover, holding it open so I don’t lose my page.
