When he's done with giving the buyer what he wants, which isn't easily made as he used about four different applications to make different book covers, each with its own speciality, we move to talking about his love for art. It was an infinity sign with a howling Wolf's shape in the centre. Strange. Looking up, I move aside the books to feel my heart thud in my chest. There was a book.... behind all the books lined in front. And hope rises in my chest. Extending my hand, I move my hand behind to have my fingers touch something velvety. It has to be it.... Pulling it out, I smiled. Seeing a book covered with red velvet colour. The design I saw earlier, drawn in the centre. Much bigger than the earlier one with the words written on the top.

I turned it to the side where there is no dirt and wipe the book using it. I saw a black cover with gold linings and designs. I touch the ribbons that are placed in some of the pages. There are symbols located at the bottom part of the cover, carved and painted in the color of gold, but I don’t understand what it means. I looked at the back but there were just designs. I tried opening it but there’s a metal lock on the side. Huh? Was this… a secret book? It kinda looked like a grimoire.

“What was it you wanted to talk to me about?” It still felt strange to voice it out loud. “Some artwork,” I said. “I was hoping you could work on a cover design for me, but I’d like you to keep your work a secret, if possible, please?” She did a little bounce on the spot, once my request had registered. “For real? You want a book cover? For one of your thrillers? Oh fuck. That’s awesome!” I shook my head. “No, no. Not for a thriller. I’ve been working on a different project, actually. A novel called The Girl Downstairs.”

It was not all, the cover was the eyes of werewolves. My brows furrowed in keen interest as well as something I can't name settling within me. Without thinking further, my hand took out the book and the front cover showed the face of werewolves with its eyes glowing in a golden hue. I brushed my fingers on the cover, mesmerized by the image. It was delicately printed and made.

It hit my shoulder before dropping to the floor. I barely felt the pain. I sighed, rubbing the back of my neck. “Perfect,” I muttered. “Just what I needed.” I almost ignored it. But something about that book caught my eye. It wasn’t like the others. The cover was deep red—so dark it looked almost like dried blood in the dim light. The edges were lined with gold that had faded with age. I frowned and bent down to pick it up. It felt heavier than it looked. When I turned it over, I noticed something strange.

But when she pulled it free, her breath stopped. The book was unlike anything she had ever seen. Its cover was bound in leather so dark it seemed almost black, though in the right light it shimmered faintly with hues of deep crimson. Strange symbols—curved, jagged, and foreign—were etched into its surface, pressed deep into the hide like scars. No title marked its spine. A lock, thin and ancient-looking, sealed its pages.
