Can't believe the first book came out when Paolini was still a teenager. That detail still blows my mind. Anyway, the core story is pretty classic fantasy scaffold: farm boy Eragon finds a mysterious blue stone in the mountains, which hatches into a dragon he names Saphira. This pulls him into a hidden world of Dragon Riders, an evil king named Galbatorix who killed them all, and a rebellion. He's hunted, goes on the run with the town storyteller Brom (who knows way more than he lets on), and has to figure out his role in a much larger conflict.
Honestly, I re-read it recently and it holds up better than I expected for a debut. The relationship between Eragon and Saphira, how they learn to communicate mentally and depend on each other, is still the best part for me. The plot beats are familiar—training montages, ancient languages, hidden heritage—but the execution with the dragon bond is what makes it specific and enjoyable. It’多方面 is a coming-of-age journey wrapped in scales and fire.
