The Don is Mine
She grinned, holding it up like treasure.
“Let’s cook,” she said.
I blinked. “Cook?”
“Yes. In your kitchen.”
“That kitchen hasn’t been used in years.”
“Then it’s time.”
The kitchen was vast — marble counters, copper pots hanging from racks, ovens that gleamed but had never been lit. It was beautiful, but sterile. A room designed for show, not for life.
Until Holly walked in.
She tied her hair back, rolled up her sleeves, and spread the notebook across the counter. The recipe was simple: Pasta alla Norma. Eggplant, tomatoes, basil, ricotta salata. A dish my mother had made on Sundays, when the house smelled like comfort instead of power.
