The world before my eyes began to crumble. The Coronation Hall, the bloodstained throne, Killian’s cooling corpse... Everything shattered like a mirror struck by a heavy hammer, dissolving into countless motes of light. The System’s voice rang out in the void one last time, filled with arrogant charity: [Congratulations on clearing the game. Wish granted: Full Resurrection.] [Disconnecting...] [Game Over.] Route 66, The RV. A violent jolt. I snapped my eyes open.

When James parked and turned off the engine, Aiden just sat there for a moment. "You getting out, or do I need to drag you?" James asked. "I'm getting out." Aiden opened the door and stepped onto the gravel driveway. The manor loomed in front of him… three stories of stone and glass, the kind of place that screamed money and power, with a group of guards stationed at every corner, almost impossible to miss… or get missing. He was about to head toward the front door when he summoned up the courage to ask the question that had been eating at him.

My reflection stares back—a girl who looks like she should be crying over a broken heart, not planning how to dismantle a goddamn death game from the inside out. Perfect Clear. Two of them. The System had to make a spectacle of it. A bitter laugh escapes my lips. “Should’ve seen that coming. Nothing’s ever quiet with you, is it?” I’m talking to the empty room, to the unseen architecture of the Game. It doesn’t answer. It just watches. My new phone glows on the coffee table. Sleek, transparent, cold to the touch. The Game’s welcome gift for surviving your first Instance. Your leash and your lifeline, all in one. It buzzed once already.

Then, he turned on his heel, his long overcoat billowing behind him as he strode back out into the pouring rain, leaving me alone in the dark Cathedral. I let out a ragged, breathless gasp the moment the doors closed, collapsing slightly against the stone altar. My hands were trembling violently. He didn't know. He had no idea his sweet, broken Aria was the masked warlord standing right in front of him. The game was officially on.

I drift off to sleep on the plane on the way back to Texas, only to awaken after having a very vivid dream or maybe I should say fantasy of Drake. I pour myself a drink and try to relax. I decided to change clothes and freshen up, just in case Drake met me at the airfield. Silly how I have to remind myself this is all just a game. I catch myself wanting him, wanting to please him, wanting to give myself to him. I have to remember that I want to hurt him, make him regret how he treated me. Lila, my wolf also reacts to Drake so strongly I constantly have to reign in. I continue to sip the burning alcohol that I am drinking, my excitement continues to grow at the thought of seeing Drake. Dear Reader Thank you for reading the first chapter of the book called, Hot Under Cover. Hot Undercover was originally written as an Interactive Story Game. I am in the process of adapting it into a novel form. The original version contains a great deal of dialogue to fit the platform for which it was intended. Though you can enjoy the story in its interactive format too as currently published. (eg when Aaron speaks, the format will be as this: Aaron ~ "Devan, I think we are damn lost.")

Its title is Persephone’s Pomegranate, a novel it based the game on. I rarely read romance novels. When I looked at the synopsis, the plot seemed promising.
