I was completely bored, left with my own unfriendly thoughts. I browsed through the books he had stacked on the shelves. They were a lot. I had picked up and returned a number of them. Even though I was casually looking through for something that would interest me, I was hoping to find a book on magic and spells.

Most of the entries were familiar types of magic—herbal mixtures, minor warding spells, protection charms, and potion recipes. The kind of practical witchcraft that most mages learned during their years at Rosewood. But I wasn’t looking for those. I flipped slowly through the pages, searching for anything that felt even remotely familiar. Anything that might explain the wings. Or the blood. It took several minutes before I found something.

He moved with purpose, like he knew exactly where everything was without having to look. Six books landed on the table in front of me with a series of heavy thuds. He flew to the front of the room, toward the platform where that strange spiral book spun endlessly. The one with no front or back page. No clear beginning or end.

Titles like 'The Elements of Magic' and 'Harnessing the Power Within' stared back at me, their spines cracked with age. “Alright,” I murmured to myself, flipping open a book. “Let’s see what you’ve got for me.” The hours slipped by as I read, my mind absorbing information about spells, incantations, and the delicate balance of energy required to wield magic effectively. It was fascinating and overwhelming all at once. I practiced small spells, testing my control. A simple flame flickered to life in my palm before I snuffed it out. I levitated a quill, watching as it floated lazily through the air. These were small feats, but they were progress.

AURORA’S POV I closed my eyes and focused on the place I had seen in my memories and tried to teleport there. A few minutes later I had fallen on the ground, drenched in sweat and panting with exertion. My magical powers weren’t enough to penetrate the dark shield. There was only one way now… Teleporting to the sanctuary, I took out ‘The Heart of Magic’. I shivered at the currents of power coursed through me by just holding it.

Once they walked away, Christian leaned forward, elbows on the table, that ever-present smirk on his face. "So what is this book, anyway? Witchcraft for Beginners? How to Hex Your Ex?" I scoffed. "No, it's a comparative analysis on supernatural war tactics over the last two centuries. It goes into detail on Flare magic, territorial blood pacts, and..."

The script was old-fashioned and flowery, and some of the words were spelled differently than she was used to. She began to read, her eyes scanning the page. The book was about herbs and their uses in magic, and she couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement as she read on. She had always been fascinated by plants and their healing properties, and the idea of using them in magic was something she had never considered before. As she turned the pages, she saw illustrations of different herbs and flowers, each with their own magical properties. Some were said to cure ailments, while others could be used to protect against evil spirits or to attract love and wealth.

It was hand written. She went on, flipping the book and stopping to read through some parts of it. It was a book about spells and she found herself laughing at the silliness of the thought that magic was still in existence. Some of the spells in the book made Matilda to shake her head and conclude that the book had been written during the time that witches existed. Some of the recipes in the book had ingredients like a two day old crow's blood, the crushed bark of a cider tree, four leaved clovers, mint leaves that had bloomed in the summer and many other bizarre ingredients.
