But if he’s already activated the trial batch, we might be facing something more than just elite soldiers.”

Morning birds chirped faintly in the distance, and the house buzzed with quiet life. NYX sat curled on the long couch in the sitting room, her head leaning gently against Kyo’s shoulder. He sat beside her, legs spread wide, one arm resting protectively behind her. Aaron lounged across from them on the armrest of a nearby chair, his laughter echoing through the room. The three of them were caught in easy conversation, trading jabs and teasing remarks that made NYX’s smile stretch wider with every minute. But then—she stopped laughing. Her body stiffened slightly, her nose twitching as if she’d caught something unusual in the air.

The woman steps forward and bows, controlled and respectful without trembling. “My name is Nyra,” she says. “I am trained to offer blood safely, regulate intake, and prevent uncontrolled hunger episodes.” Her voice holds steady confidence. Not fear. Not reverence. Just purpose. Sebastian studies her carefully, gaze sharp enough to cut through deception if any exists. “Step closer,” he commands. She obeys without hesitation. I study her in return. There is no resentment in her scent. No panic. Only calm steadiness, like deep water untouched by storm.

I said, sitting on the chair behind my desk. “And how many times do I need to tell you I like it here? It’s filled with your scent. It helps me reeel–laaax,” Nyssa stretched her body, turning to face me. She grabbed my coat and used it like a blanket before burying her face in the cushion. I switched on the computer and turned on the camera planted in Xanthea’s room. Camera was better at monitoring her than the guardian butterflies. Her overexcitement and excessive cheerfulness, like a kid on seeing the butterflies, just ticked me off.
