He sat beside her, legs spread wide, one arm resting protectively behind her. Aaron lounged across from them on the armrest of a nearby chair, his laughter echoing through the room. The three of them were caught in easy conversation, trading jabs and teasing remarks that made NYX’s smile stretch wider with every minute. But then—she stopped laughing.
