“Zuzu, go to Dad now and tell him I’m teleporting Vaheed to the vaulted dungeon, and have Marlena wait there.” While Zuzu whistled and vanished into thin air, Nyx raised his tuft tail and curved the tip in Vaheed’s direction. Crossed her legs. I raised one eyebrow, even though she couldn't see it. Her fingers tapped on the table. I leaned just slightly closer. Not enough that anyone would notice. Just enough that my breath stirred a tiny wisp of hair at her temple. She flinched. Like I'd touched her. The grey wolf kept talking. Nyx shot me a look over her shoulder. The thing staggered, but it didn’t drop. “This is insane!” Blue yelled, slashing at another one. Nyx fought with a deadly confidence that I had never seen. She was fast, using her daggers to strike at their chests, but no matter how many times she cut them, they wouldn’t stop. “These things don’t feel pain!” she shouted, frustration clear in her voice. Gary growled in annoyance. He shifted into his wolf form, lunging at one of the dead and ripping into its throat. But even that didn’t stop it. The thing didn’t even flinch.
