The Obedience Trial
I said with a faint smile, my voice quiet but enough to freeze him in place, "and I will let you experience what real death feels like."
He stared at me, veins bulging on his forehead, his chest heaving violently.
He wanted to curse me, to interrogate me, and to strangle me, but he did not dare.
After all, my life was his life.
"What… do you actually want?" he forced out through clenched teeth.
For the first time, I heard concession in his voice.
"What do I want?" I repeated, the smile on my lips deepening. "First, fire every single servant in this house who listens to Mrs. Whitaker. All of them. Not one stays."
