Grayson added. Everyone nodded. Marina looked so innocent in a simple blue summer dress with capped sleeves that stretched past her knees and fluttered in the morning breeze. Without makeup, she looked younger than her age. “We will let her speak and plead her case.” Violet invited Marina to the middle of the stage. “My name is Marina Evergreen, the last of the Silvercreek Evergreens.” Her voice cracked. She brought dishonor to her family by standing up there in the first place. But she knew it was more righteous to face the consequences.

She heard the splash of the tires spilling right through the ground as the silence ensued them for a minute. "What are you trying to do? Not obliging my rules was enough to make me change my mind? No, Marian. I would not do that for just the sake of you being my daughter," Marina said while scowling at her and she glanced at her lap as she clutched her tote bag tightly. She saw the note that was printed over her bag and it said that she should follow her heart.

Slowly, I turned. A girl leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed. She was tall, sharp-eyed, with heavy eyeliner and a red dress that clung to her curves. I recognized her immediately—Marina. One of the favorites here. One of the ones who never had to beg for food or cry in the dark. “I don’t have time for this,” I said softly, trying to move past her. She stepped in my way, lips curving into a mocking smile. “Of course you don’t. You’re too busy running off to play pet for the Don.” Her eyes flicked to my trembling hands. “You danced for him, didn’t you? Everyone’s been talking.”

"Trust me, Massimo finally replaced her daughter so he's probably on his way to the estate with spears and imaginary horns" she said.

My head was spinning and I was holding onto the edge, tightly. I honestly didn’t know if I could search for it anymore without drowning. I had to give up. I could only make Lorenzo get better if I was alive and well myself. I had to give up. Tears pricked my eyes feeling so bad that I couldn’t go on anymore. “Are you on a mission to kill yourself?” Hearing that harsh voice, I looked up to see Marina walking up to the pool side. “As much as I want you gone. I don’t want you to die in my property. I can’t predict how Lorenzo would react to that and frankly, I do not want to find out. Get out of the pool.” She ordered.

I couldn't resist joining in, clapping and chanting, "Kiss her! Marry her!" Chris turned to look at me, his face a picture of shock. "Fiora, have you lost your mind? I'm your mate!"

I saw how close he was to breaking and how close to losing everything he'd built. I couldn't watch it happen. That night, while Damon slept exhausted from days of fighting and rebuilding, I packed a small bag. Just essentials. Food, water, a knife. I left a letter on the pillow beside him. *I'm sorry. As I struggled, Marina lifted her sunglasses off of her face, and it was now that I could see the glint of her malicious eyes. There was nothing but cold mirth in their depths, and in that moment, I was certain that she was—and always had been—devoid of all empathy. “You know, the sunset here really is beautiful, Ella,” she cooed, turning the phone so that I could see the vibrant red and orange hues cast across the white sand. “It’s really such a pity you’ll never get to see one again.”
