“Hαving your blood in my veins… it mαkes me sick.” I kept quiet. I wαsn’t going to give her the reαction she wαnted. The dizziness wαs mαking it hαrd to even keep my eyes open. My hαnds were shαking‚ my skin pαle. I could feel the exhαustion creeping through me‚ but she wαsn’t done. She never wαs.

Alpha Stephan held onto his shoulders, “She cannot die, do you hear me?” As I looked at Lord Stepahn, something weird happened, I felt something pulsing, something calling out to me from within him. He stiffened and looked at me, it was as if he felt it too. He looked at his veins, they were dangerously red and engorged, almost as if they wanted to burst out of his body. “My blood,” he gasped. “What?” Sir Claude sounded confused. “My blood,” his eyes narrowed as he kept staring at his veins as they spread out across both of his hands, all of them coming to the surface and pulsing with a light red color.

my voice broke just as the first tear broke from its dam and slipped down my cheek. He didn't hesitate. He plunged the needle into my vein and depressed the plunger. It felt like liquid fire was coursing through my veins and racing straight for my heart. I snapped my head back, my back arching into the chair with pain. Whatever was in that vial was meant to kill me.

The man smiled faintly, his beautiful eyes seemingly smiling as well. Noticing that everyone’s gaze had shifted to him, Vein smiled. “What’s the matter? Isn’t anyone happy? Attending a conference where everyone is so enthusiastic makes me feel incredibly joyful.” Alice narrowed her eyes slightly and suddenly said, “Indeed, I feel the same.” Vein beamed at Alice. “Meeting you, Alice, is what makes me the happiest. We even share a mutual acquaintance—you’ll be quite surprised when you meet him!”

I could smell the luscious life-giving blood underneath, calling to me … I didn’t pause to wonder what was happening to me or what I was doing. Instead, I bared my teeth and sank them into the milky-white flesh of his neck.

He tied the rubber band around my arm, then tapped the vein in the crook of my elbow. "Make a fist for me." I did. The needle went in sharply and quickly, so I looked away. I'd never liked needles and never would. "You're doing great." Dr. Chen said. His voice was gentle and reassuring. I watched the vial fill with dark red blood from me. For some reason, I thought about Mr. Anders. About the fact that his blood was in me now. Running through my veins and keeping me alive. That was strange to think about. You know, that part of him was part of me now.

Oh, God – was I about to become a vampire? “You won’t heal so quickly as I do. My blood is all I have.” A tiny, timid smile tugged at his lips. “In your body, my blood is like – like orange squash. It’s diluted, but it’s there enough to do what it needs to.” I snorted, and then winced at the spark of pain. It had blurred into one, no longer feeling like separate wounds but one great, churning gear cranking round and round within me. Hot, fresh waves of it came in surges, but it remained in the background otherwise, digging at my insides and making me clench my jaw against it.

I chimed in while she blushed. I finally got a way out of this bankruptcy and I’m going to give it my all this time… “Oh thank you God, you really answered my prayer!” I muttered excitedly…
