My heels echo over the polished floor, a deliberate sound that bounces off the marble like a warning.
They don’t dare look up. Except one.
Vin Tallo, the oldest.
He glares like he wants to kill me.
“You got something to say?” I ask, stopping right in front of him.
“You’re not your father,” he spits.
I crouch in front of him, grab his chin, and force his eyes on mine.
“I know,” I whisper. “He made people fear him. I make people obey.”
Then I let go and keep walking.
Sorrel exhales beside me like she’s been holding her breath for twenty minutes. Rivas follows in my wake, smirking like he just watched a coronation.
