One Shot Prompts Novels & Stories

Was a one in a million shot of saving the old man and myself worth pissing my step son off for? "Well? Are you stupid enough to pick it up? Want to take your shot? Are you sucking or dying, Joy? What's it going to be, mommy?" Lee purred, staring me dead in the eye as the blaring sounds of the ringing filled the empty silence in the room.

Next morning, when Ella woke up, the room was empty. The space besides her on the bed was cold. The disappointment pricked over her heart. 'What was I expecting? It was supposed to be a one-night stand.' She said to herself. They didn't even ask each other for the number. They just used each other for their pleasure and that's it. When she stepped out of bed, the soreness in between her legs made her groan. Well, it was going to remind her of the erotic night for a while.

She nodded and turned her attention away from me. My phone chirped. I took it out from my pocket and saw a text message from Jerome. Jerome: Boss, you need to see this. He sent me a picture and my eyes widened in fear and sadness when I opened it. “Maya!” I almost yelled but I remained calm. In the picture she had several wounds on her body, a gunshot wound to her head and some on her stomach. Her clothes were torn and her eyes stayed open with no life in them. Another text came in.

*** At work I get stuck with washing a boxer, he is beautiful and named Kota. "One day, I will get a dog," I whisper to him as I dry him off. He yawns, obviously bored of my talking to him. "Ugh, I don't know how you wash those things. I'll stick to the snakes." Quinn shivers, stepping up beside me. A striped snake wrapped around her hand. A shiver runs up my spine, what if it strikes out and nibbles her pinky finger off? "Well, they're cold like your soul so it makes sense," I reply seriously but I'm joking.

Athur told me that Junior was the one who got jealous, who treated him like the enemy. “Listen to me.” Viktor grabs me by the shoulders giving me such a fright that my whole body start to shake and darkness closes in on me. This cannot be happening now. “Arthur is a very skilled sniper. He can shoot a grown man and his wife from miles away, through a window, while they are sitting at the dinner table, without any harm coming to the 13-year old girl joining them.

One tap and the illusion would either survive or crumble. I took a deep breath. Okay. I’ll just angle the camera so she can see literally nothing except my ceiling and maybe a shadow that vaguely resembles a human. Yes. Perfect. Maya tilted her head. “Shadow humans are all the rage, Charlotte. You’re trendsetting.” I rolled my eyes again. “Not helping.” Finally, I tapped the camera icon. The screen blinked green, and I froze. The camera didn’t show me yet thank God but a small notification popped up: sophie is calling…

You can't just put in a new one since we need to develop the roll later. "Oh, I still got... 17 shots remaining," said Dorin, looking at the frame indicator. "Can you stand under the sun with the drum?" Seb did as he was asked and gave a drum roll as Seb took some pictures. He focused on Seb's hand as it beat the drum, the sun behind him. "I heard there’s a photo contest after the camp?" he asked Seb. [Yup. 1st place is a high-end twin-lens reflex camera.] wrote his friend, [Reason why I joined.]

I show them—with stories, shots taken with the soul in mind. At some point during the shoot, my skin prickles with awareness. I chalk it up to the mini audience we now have. Then it’s over. “That’s the laziest shoot I’ve ever had. I wish it could always be like this,” Lori murmurs, her body melting into the sofa. I lick my lip, nerves humming. “Do you want to see them? They’re unedited, but I think the vision is there.” “Sure,” she beckons, still lying down.

she said. Vaeron said nothing. But something in his chest cracked and he whispered: “She’s remembering who she is.” Deep in the Deadwood, they howl without sky. No moons. No law. Outcasts among outcasts. I came to them bleeding. They laughed, they bared teeth. But when I spoke, the ground trembled. And they bowed. “Luna of No One,” they said and gave me their dead. The night was quiet. Too quiet. Seris struck while I slept. No blade. Just words.
