One Summer Novel Novels & Stories

The voice on the other end of the line rose, cutting through the speaker so sharply it seemed to rattle the dishes on the table. "I found Julian 440 yards above Camp One, at the bottom of a cliff. His whole body is frozen solid. And he was still clutching a torn piece of note in his hand."

Christmas was the reading of the book. This Christmas, Don's book was a novel—Norwegian, which was not a coincidence, a novel by the same writer whose essays were in the Norway reading programme. The novel was called The Dark Year, and it was about a man who spent a winter alone in a cabin in the far north of Norway, experiencing the full darkness for the first time. Don had been saving it since September, when he had finished the essays. He had placed it on the shelf above his desk, the designated holding place for the Christmas book, and had not opened it once.

She had been hoping to bump into Nicholas here. However, not only had she not met Nicholas yet, but she had bumped into North! Summer suddenly thought of something and acted as if a light bulb had lit up in her head. “You’re not here to seduce Mr. Sherman, are you?!” North raised an eyebrow. “Seduce?” Summer acted like she had caught North red-handed, yelling, “How could you be so shameless?! Do you think Mr. Sherman is someone you can target? I know he’s both handsome and capable, but you need to take a good look at yourself!”

“Are you interested in some props for the Last Day of Summer Fest? We offer free juice and photos on the side.” “When is the day?" “Pardon?” Valentina looked over at her like she was staring at a grade two child. “When is the fest?” Colleen had no idea so she looked to Tobias for help and thankfully, he answered. “21st of this month. A few superstars like Johnny Crane, and Naomi Statham will be in attendance. I would recommend you get a summer hat for the occasion but unfortunately, we’re sold out. So, how about a tee shirt?”

He was afraid he might die before he could confess his feelings and give me the perfect proposal he had promised me. That was why he kept reminding himself to go to Fall University and confess to me on Richmond Road—the place where he had first met me, and it was true love at first sight. Yet ironically, the repeated reminder was the very reason that caused his memory loss. Now, three years had passed, and I had suffered so much, living with a version of Ethan whose memories were frozen at eighteen years old. No one understood better than him that eighteen-year-old Ethan had been a complete jerk, just wearing a mask of obedience.

Time had flown past so fucking quickly. Summer had chosen an unconventional college that allowed their art students to graduate much earlier, unlike other colleges, if the student was exceptional, and her big exam was coming up. Lifting her hand to me, she held out a spoon full of the ice cream with a wink, a silent invitation….a fucking temptation.

Not ever. Summer sat by the window, staring out into the darkness. The cold breeze from the open window brushed against her skin, but the chill in the air was nothing compared to the unease gnawing at her chest. Hilda had just left for the night, and now she was alone, consumed by thoughts of what Jessica was planning. Her mind couldn't settle, turning over the conversation she'd overheard earlier. Jessica's words echoed in her mind—When the foxes leave tomorrow, Summer will go with them.

Ryker explained. “Look at the size of this place. It’s the size of a city library. It’s going to take forever to find what we’re looking for.” Enzo said. “I know. But this is our best chance. So, let’s just dive in.” Ryker said, grabbing a book of his own and sitting at a desk to read it. “Why the hell would Summer go in there alone?” Enzo asked softly, looking through his book. “It’s what she does. If she has a plan and doesn’t want anyone else to get hurt. Then she’ll take it all on by herself. She’ll try and kill Lilith on her own from the inside.” I explained.

I liked the old Summer more. Summer ~”I recall you calling the old Summer a whining girl.” Devan ~”I did not say that.” Aaron ~”Oh yes you did.” Devan ~”So much for friendship.” Aaron ~”I did not know I was supposed to consider you as a friend.” Summer ~”You guys are still a bunch of idiots though.” Aaron ~”Me too?” Summer ~”No not you, the ass guy and his friend. Please tell me he does not have to babysit me anymore because he annoys the living shit out of me.”
