The nerves are starting to kick in. I am hit with the scent of lemongrass when I walk into Onyx’s room. There are three tables set up for us to get massages. I say in Greek, hoping Bronx won’t understand it. The cover of the book stretches and creeks, until a bulge forms below the embossed title. The bulge grows until it looks like a closed eyelid. I take off the dragon scale glove and run my hand close to the surface, careful not to touch it. When it senses me just an inch away, the eyelid snaps open, exposing a crisp apple green eyeball. It looks around, surprised to be awakened until it lands on me and watches, waiting for instructions. “What the fuck?” Bronx lets go of my hand and backs up until his back is against the door. “Kas, tell me that’s not what I think it is. It’s some sort of replica or some shit. Tell me that’s not real.”

His hair was dark and tousled, and his eyes were a piercing shade of blue. He had a rugged, dangerous look about him that was both thrilling and intimidating. Storm felt a flush rise to her cheeks as she looked at the photo. She had never paid attention to any man back at the pack. Of course, there were attractive werewolves but she never found herself interested in any of them. But there was something about the man in the photo that called to her. A tenderness, a warmth, that she had not expected. He was holding Tasha close, and there was an intimacy in the way they were touching that made Storm feel like an intruder.

She deflects with an attitude, making it seem as though I am in the wrong. Onyx looks at the first page before pushing the book back at her. “You have now insulted my mate twice. You did not apologize either time that you did something to offend her, then this.” He taps the binder. “This is not what I had discussed with you. These are my favorite colors, not hers.” “Well, the Alpha should be honored as well.” She swoons. “Not when this party is for the Luna. Show me one item of green, burgundy, or pink. I will wait.” He demands as he stares at her. “Those colors do not work with the pack colors. Nor does it work with the temperature outside.” She states, giving me a disparaging look.

It’s an old leather-bound book, with a red leather cover and a gold emblem on the front, she turns it to read the spine, “The Parrot and the Hunter. Is this a children’s book or a weird shifter romance novel?” Morpheus laughs, and she sits down and opens it, “Ah, romance novel.” She taps it thoughtfully, “No pictures.” She smiles as Sol flushes and she curls up on the sofa to read, she flips through, “Oh, my apologies, there are pictures.” Sol groans as she takes in the etching of two people clearly fucking each other senseless. “Informative pictures.” Morpheus laughs hard,

Calm Before the Storm (Isabella's POV) The library smelled like old paper and cedar polish. Sunlight slanted through tall windows, catching dust motes that floated lazy in the air. I’d slipped away after the snowball fight, cheeks still pink from cold and laughter, needing quiet to sort through the mess inside my head. Shelves stretched high, packed with leather-bound books that looked older than the pack itself. I pulled one down at random, thick, dark cover stamped with a crescent moon. I returned a favoring smile to her by doing it genuinely before I took the book on her soft palm, an almost thick book with a blue cover. The book is heavy. On the front cover, there is a closed eye with long black thick lashes in a form of feathers placed inside a pentagon. Outside the badge has a wonderful abstract ocean and sunrise. Below it, golden embossed letters are shining to make its cover spectacular: BOOK OF A ZONER "Begin reading from page two to page five," Psyche said to me, stopping me in amazement. So I did what she wanted me to do. I flipped the pages until I reached the second page of the book. I started reading what's on it.
