My stomach sinks. “I’m sorry,” I add softly. “I shouldn’t have—” “It’s fine. No big deal.” The first awkward silence we’ve ever experienced bounces back and forth between us for a few seconds. “I have to go,” Noah says eventually. “The guys are calling me. They’re going out tonight to decompress. I’ll talk to you later.” “See you later.” After we both hang up, I toss my phone to the side and bury my face in my pillow, forcing myself not to cry.

“Where is she?” Ryan hesitated. Noah took a menacing step forward. “Where. The. Fuck. Is. She?” Ryan shook his head. “She’s gone.” “Gone?” “She left the city.” Noah turned, pacing. His vision blurred at the edges, his breathing uneven. He needed to get out of there before he destroyed something. Or worse, someone. Ryan spoke again, his voice softer now. “Noah… I’m sorry.” Noah let out a rough exhale, shoving his hands through his hair. He felt sick. He had lost a child. And he would never get to meet them. Never get to hear their laugh, hold them, teach them things, watch them grow.

Mrs Janice gasped. “What the hell do you think you're doing!?” “Going to find my woman before she leaves to God knows where again!” Noah snapped and grabbed his mask off the countertop. He dashed out of the room, ignoring his mother who was yelling at him not to leave. Noah took the elevator to the downstairs living room where he net Veronica and Bianca, watching a movie. “Bianca.” He called and they both turned. They could see how stressed out he was, so they both got up and walked towards him.

There was a solemn silence in the room before Reagan spoke, “ I’ve been trying to reach out to Noah all day but it’s not going through” he said. Lumiére snapped his head at Reagan, and then at Arin who had gone pale. Noah was in the North Sanctuary, no where near the city, right?. “ he’s in the North…” Arin muttered. “No, he’s not…I called Hector this morning…Noah left two weeks ago. I wanted to rush out and grabbed the two bitches in the next room. "Well, it seems to be their show time again." Noah's voice rang out behind me. I turned and looked at him angrily. "How many times have you given them opportunities like this?" Noah had a towel half wrapped around him. His upper body still dripping with wet water. He had a very developed chest, and about six or eight abs, which I had only taken a cursory look at them and got no chance to count.

I yelled, grabbing the remote and switching off Ninja Turtles. "Fuck, Angelo was just about to—forget it, what happened?" Noah grumbled, shoving a bunch of chips into his mouth. He was way too grown to be pouting like a 7-year-old, but I was one to talk. A few movies before, I was singing along to Barbie Mermaid Tale at the top of my lungs, and I was pretty sure he posted the video he had taken on Snapchat. "I bought a library," I said nervously, biting my lip. Noah sat up and fully turned to face me.

I sat in front of the vanity table, my phone propped up, playing a makeup tutorial video from YouTube. The door swung open and Noah entered looking sweaty and exhausted. He stopped in his tracks and I froze with my concealer in hand. Noah had told me he would be coming back late because he was going into the human world to deal with some business and he had not even been sure he would come home that night. What the fuck happened.

I whisper, my eyes locking onto his. He manages a smile before nodding and heading off. We’re then left with no other option but to wait, and wait, and wait. What feels like the longest twenty minutes of my life passes, and then Noah finally emerges. The second I see him, I know he killed it. There’s a huge smile on his face and an extra skip in his steps when he approaches us. Maya gasps. “You crushed it.” Noah shrugs. “I didn’t completely embarrass myself.”
