June 2040 Kara's POV: It's staring at me, like literally staring. I shouldn't have done it. Why did I take the stupid book? I hope to God he doesn't notice, but what if he does? I highly doubt that he writes in a diary every day. But then again, I shouldn't assume. I'm tempted to read it. I should read it, or else what the hell was the point in taking it? It's a thick black leather book. It looks somewhat worn, but largely unused. It's probably just filled with gaming or sports stuff.

When she came back, she found Cela sitting beside a big balikbayan box looking disappointed. "You found them," Nanny Rita said. "So they bought a lot of copies of my book," Cela said in a dismayed tone. "They were very supportive especially your mother," Nanny Rita explained. "How about the second book?" Cela asked. Nanny Rita sighed. She knows her too well so she's careful with her words. "I am not sure if your brother already ordered but he has plans," she answered. Cela remains disappointed.

She pulled the book out and looked at the title written plainly in gold. “Familiars and their partners.” A glance through the book revealed the author considered the familiar the dominant party member. The connected person was the partner, like a sidekick.

I hold the book tight to my chest and turn my back to him. "No. Give it back." He launches for the book and I step away from him and stand on the other side of his bed before he reaches me. I stuck my tongue out at him. He just smiles and shakes his head. I took the opportunity to look at the page quickly. "What's this?" I ask, trying to contain my laughter. "It's a Christmas tree." He replies, folding his arms. I raise my eyebrow quizzically. He sighs heavily. "This is why I didn't want you to see it."

It was a refreshing change from the typical rowdy bar scene where people simply sought to drown their sorrows in alcohol.
