She scribbled an address, tore out the page, and handed it over.
“Thank you,” Pat said, her voice barely above a whisper.
They left the orphanage and drove to the address. It was a quiet part of town, not exactly remote, but certainly not busy. The house was modest, with white walls, a brown roof, and a tiny porch. Potted plants lined the sides of the steps. Roses, daisies, and one small lavender bush.
It was peaceful.
