Protected by the Moon Goddess
The ancient floorboards protest under our combined weight for a moment, then they give way with a terrible crash, and I find myself falling through the air, riding the Outsider down to the ground floor.
We land with a thud as dust and debris rain down on us. The impact knocks the breath out of my lungs, and the Outsider is in a better position, rolling over and holding my throat in his hands. In the light streaming in through the open front door, I see his face red with fury and his eyes bloodshot.
“Die,” he growls through clenched teeth.
I hear another sound.
Tiny feet clap-knock-knock down the stairs. A pause as she leaps down the remaining steps, and then more steps as she sprints down.
