Deciding I have to go outside to check for myself I turn for the door and slowly open it, listening for any sound I don't hear anything, and after a long moment I slowly open the door and walk outside. The air is crisp and the ground is cold under my feet, I didn't put the socks back on and didn't have time to find any shoes. Walking a few steps further outside I don't find anyone and coming to the side of the house there is no one there either. This is strange! I get a feeling I should head inside the house instead and wait for the guards to come back or for Aziel to come home, I'm about to turn around when I hear a threatening growl behind me.

The growls were guttural and furious, the kind of sound that claws at instinct and survival. But then something changed. The noise died. The screams dwindled. The roaring faded. Silence washed over the pack house slowly, creeping through the halls like a ghost. A different sound replaced it. Crying. Soft at first. Then louder. Dozens of voices. My chest twisted. I leaned closer to the door, my hand trembling above the lock. Do not open it. His voice echoed inside my head. But how could I sit here? How could I hide while people bled outside? While pack members who trusted me, who relied on me, lay injured or worse?

“You’ve returned from your adventures. Tell me, what have you seen out there?” “I’ve seen many things,” Derek started, a grin breaking across his face. “But I’ve brought back something even more valuable—outsiders.” At this, the atmosphere shifted. Blackwood’s expression hardened, his eyes narrowing. I felt Axel tense beside me, his grip firm around my hand. “Outsiders?” Alpha Blackwood echoed, fixing his gaze on us. Suddenly, he straightened, a feral grin creeping onto his face. “Good! Derek has brought back some outsiders that will be useful for sport!”

"Disgusting... I'm gonna be sick." The room buzzed with overlapping gossip and chatter, some of it brutally blunt. "Ahhh!" Madison shrieked and lunged at me. "You bitch—how could you—how did you—!" I spun around with my laptop and dodged her easily. Mr. Gabelman's face was ashen. He rushed over and yanked the power cord out of the wall. "Isla! What the fuck do you think you're doing?!" Before he could say another word, several police officers and labor inspectors burst through the door.

A rumble of agreement resonated around the room. “Here’s what I know,” I began. “The attack last night was by The Outsiders, and I’m sure that you all know who they are.” “Yeah, blood-thirsty heathens who won’t think twice about killing us all,” Darius interjected. “What I want to know is why they were here? And how were they able to gain access to the grounds?” A grumble of agreement resonated once more around the table. “Also,” Felicia added, “do you think they’re on the rise? Usually, they just keep to themselves.”

Shane whispered at Audrey’s ear when the foreigners started a conversation she couldn’t understand. “Shh… don’t ask. Let’s give them some time alone,” Audrey suggested and dragged him with her inside. She caught a glance at Nathan who was annoyed for some reason. “Okay, let's stay here for a bit. I’m worried they might end up killing each other,” she said when they’re inside the building at last. Audrey peeked outside through the glass window and since the lights were off and only the ones in the hallway were switch on, she was confident Nathan wouldn’t notice her watching them. “Hey, are you planning to eavesdrop on their conversation?” Shane asked who also joined her at what she was doing.

His hands trembled as he dialed a number and made an international call. "Where's the girl?" he asked. "Are you talking about the girl you had kidnapped and shipped off abroad?" The familiar voice sneered from the other end of the call. "Alex?" "Surprise surprise." "What are you doing with this phone?" David began to panic. "I told you you are a fool, didn't I? Well, I hope you are ready. It is going to be a long ride, and as always, I'll be right here, watching you get kicked out of Phoenix and enjoying your downfall. Ciao," Alex said and ended the call.

My throat went dry when I want to say something to him. “Adolf…I can’t betray my tribe.” I gulp when the tip of his nose is teasingly making its way down to my neck, inhaling my fragrance. I firmly closed my eyes, pulling myself together. “I am not saying you’re going to betray your tribe. I’m saying-” Adolf wasn’t finished with his sentence when a loud noise coming from outside shook our world. We both stop from what we are doing then glance outside to see what’s happening. “Someone needs help.” I mumbled, looking at Adolf beside me who’s eyes are glued outside.

My brother’s only duty was to get our mother and me to safety. The outsiders are those stray wolves who don’t belong to a pack or who have been cast away. But rumor has it that someone is bringing them together to form a pack—an empire of their own. They have been claiming lands and killing their Alphas, but when they attacked our land, they left the moment my father died.

“To this day, Malachai remains the only other person alive to have seen the battle that took place in Ravenna. It’s because of that experience he has it in his head that all Outsiders are evil, whether it’s true or not.” Alex wanted to protest such a claim. Though he could not argue with the notion that such evil existed in the world, because it existed everywhere, that did not mean everyone from beyond these boundaries shared the same degree of cruelty. He knew that he could never be capable of inflicting such harm on anyone, but at the same time, he could sense it would be a lost cause trying to convince these people of that. “So they’re still here then?” Alex asked over the silence.
