I winced, pressing harder, breathing carefully until the ache dulled. The roses beyond the glass glowed in rows, their petals lit by the fading sun. Beyond them, the pine trees stood rigid, dark silhouettes that never seemed to bend. They looked like sentinels—guardians or jailers, I couldn’t decide. I was still staring when a sound broke the stillness. Not Luca’s deliberate steps. Something lighter. Quicker. My head turned sharply toward the doorway. Ana. She hovered at the threshold, the youngest of the staff I had seen once or twice in the villa, a girl no older than nineteen. She carried a folded blanket in her arms, her gaze fixed downward as if afraid to meet mine.

I said apologetically and unapologetically. Her gaze darkened as she suddenly glared at me. “The gut of this kid!” Layla growled. “I'm going to be Luna of this pack, he has to obey me! Including you!” She yelled and pointed a finger at me. Anger built up in me as her words registered in my mind. I wasn't mad at her for pointing a finger at me and yelling, but I was mad at the words she just said. She? The Luna? I looked past her to Ryder who was lazily leaning on the wall and watching as his stupid girlfriend yelled at me. When did he become so disrespectful?

Ana avoided staring at Helena for too long because she knew that Helena was the only reason she refrained from setting this house on fire. Ana held the knife tightly, its sharp edge glinting in the dim light. She had to get past the guards, but they stood frozen, their eyes fixed on her. With a swift movement, Ana brandished the knife, and the guards backed away, making way for her to pass. She stepped out of the house into the cool night air, her heart pounding with excitement and fear. This was it - her chance to escape.

I can't face another right after. "Fuck, Ana, we have got to leave." She sounds hasty, but not annoyed at my weak human body, as I suppose she would have thought. I follow Olivia's sight to our front to see more Hunters, assembling. There are lots of them. Olivia, I doubt, can fight them all. When she looks back at her, her eyes glows and something struck inside me. I suddenly feel strength, and I can hear her voice inside my head. "Ana, stand up."

Her expression reminds me of her demeanor when I first met her - a darkness inside her soul that threatened to drag her down into despair at any moment. "What is it?" I ask. Ana hugs her arms against herself. "It's Julie's birthday." Her expression becomes tight with anger. "Oh," I say, not knowing how else to respond. "I'm sorry. I didn't know." Ana doesn't say anything else. Wordlessly, she stalks over to the gun cabinet, pulls out her rifle, handgun, and ammo for both. Without looking at me, she heads outside.

She needed answers, and she needed them now. Zara’s eyes widened slightly with worry. “Is everything going to be alright, Luna?” She asked. Ana nodded, trying to project confidence she didn't fully feel. “Yeah, get some rest.” She began to walk out, clutching Zara’s phone tightly. Zara bowed shortly, before turning off the lights and climbing onto the bed. Ana shut the door behind her, taking a moment to gather herself before heading down the dimly lit hallway. The heavy rain outside mirrored the turmoil within her own mind. She wrapped her arms around herself, feeling a chill that had nothing to do with the weather.

He seemed to feel her eyes on him, he turned, met her stare, and smiled wickedly before returning to his cheering pack. Anana hissed beneath her breath. “Filthy cheat.” She rolled her wrists, stretched her fingers, and twisted her neck from side to side until it cracked. Then she began hopping lightly on her toes, muscles alive and ready. At the far end, Aliyah’s eyes locked onto Anana with a venomous intensity. Her lips curled as she muttered low enough only she could hear. “It’s time to take what’s rightfully mine.” Anana’s instincts screamed. She couldn’t see where it came from, but she felt death stares burn into her from multiple angles. But she flexed her fingers, ready for combat.

Lucia, ever the snake, points toward the far end of the room, where a large potted fern obscures part of the seating area. “Over there,” she says, a satisfied smirk tugging at her lips. “Looks like she’s enjoying herself.” I follow her gaze and spot Ana, lounging on a plush couch, surrounded by three men. One leans in, whispering something in her ear that makes her toss her head back and laugh, carefree and radiant. Her hair has come loose, spilling over her shoulders, and for a moment, I’m frozen, watching her like a predator stalking his prey. My fists clench at my sides, a cold rage building inside me.

Elena’s Pov Oliver stood looking at me and the old lady in surprise. I was not only standing up to him but I stood my ground. He looked at Ana with a glare “Who are you? And why are you on my land?” Ana walked to a chair, taking a seat, “Young warlord, who I am is not necessary but who are you and why is your fate tied to hers?” Oliver looked at me, then back to Ana “So…..why is my fate tied to hers?” He asked with a tone of sarcasm.
