Then it hit him.
The elevator.
He rushed toward it, pressing his ear against the doors as he called her name again, his voice urgent, desperate.
At first, there was nothing.
Then—
A faint sound.
Muffled.
Barely there.
“Gabi,” he said sharply, knocking on the doors. “I’m here. Can you hear me?”
A weak noise answered him from inside.
Someone was in there.
Without thinking, Norman scanned the area, grabbed what he could find, and forced the doors open with raw strength and stubborn determination, metal groaning in protest as he pried them apart enough to climb inside.
