No Escape From Fate
He barely reacted to me anymore, lying limp like a little bundle in my arms.
“Oh, baby, please hang on,” I start to panic for real, terrified for my little friend. What was happening to him? “Gerald, tell me—how much farther to your healer? My friend is really bad, he needs help right now!”
“Well, actually, it’s not that far anymore,” the old man wheezes tiredly. “We just need to get through this stretch of woods, then there are marshes, and there’s a path running through them—you’ll see it. Follow the path and you’ll find help for your little beast. I think I’ll stay here, hide somewhere and rest. Otherwise I might croak sooner than I should,” the king sighs wearily.
