THE PRICE OF LETTING GO
I dialed Petra’s number, hands not quite steady, and Dominic pulled his shoes on fast, already halfway out the door in his mind.
Petra picked up on the third ring, groggy.
“Hey, sorry, I know it’s early,” I said. “Has Marcus Reyes asked you anything strange lately? About Hargrove? Timelines, ownership, anything that felt off?”
There was a pause on her end. Longer than I liked.
“Actually, yeah,” she said. “Last week. He asked me who has access to the client contracts. Not project stuff. The legal stuff. I thought it was weird but figured it was just a new-boss thing.”
