Hunter's disappearance had affected all of us. Even the babies seemed quieter. Xander floated near the ceiling, occasionally opening tiny portals that never led anywhere useful. He still looked disappointed every time Hunter failed to appear. I looked toward Chaos. "There has to be another way." Chaos stopped pacing. "There is." Everyone looked at him. He held out one hand. "The Void remembers those connected to it." He smiled faintly. "Hunter is my knight." "He carries the Void's shadows." He closed his hand. "We'll use them as a token."

One day he decided to walk into the woods and no one has ever seen him since. My name is Lucas Harrison. I am considered the best tracker and hunter in the town. Not only animals but also Paranormal beings. All-day and all night, people in our town searched, lighting the way with flashlights and lanterns. Searching with dogs and carrying shotguns. It all seemed like a horror movie waiting to happen.

A male voice, that I didn’t know, asked. Looking up, I saw a male player, standing a few feet away. His character was a vampire, but he was wearing the armor of a Hunter. Hunters in this game were players that found pleasure in attacking other players for their gold pieces and items. Granted, only common items could be looted.

“Hush now, angel. You’re safe. I’m not mad.” “Sorry.” She whispered. “I apologize. Concubi have nasty tempers.” I chuckled. “Is there anything else?” “Who is the Phantom?” Gunderson asked. “The Phantom is a prolific serial killer who’s been active for the last three years in the state. He kills trackers and hunters primarily, but has been known to take out guards from camps. No one knows who he is. Reports are different each time about his description. We’ve been trying to get him, but it’s nearly impossible. He’s careful and always deadly. No victim has ever been left alive.” Colin explained.

“Shut up, pup. I need to finish what I’m saying before they get back from the store.” Bryant tried to say something, but Garrett, Will, and Bethany growled low in warning to him. He crossed his arms and pouted. “Thank you. What the Vasili didn’t realize when he ordered me to be taken was just how much of an enemy he was taking into his home. I know Ford and Rao.” The wolves gasped. “I am known to hunters and trackers as ‘The Phantom’. I hunt them. I’m gathering information, then I’m leaving and I’m taking all of you with me. With luck, we’ll take the bulk of his succubae, too. Any questions so far?” Madison asked.

His voice carried that chilling, subsonic resonance that made the nursery walls crack. The gold static around him didn't flare; it solidified. It turned into a pressurized sphere of gravity that smelled of ozone and rock-bursting char. "Leo, ground it! Don't let them map you!" I managed to choke out, struggling to stand. "They already have the map, Phoenix," a voice spoke from the Hunter’s mask—Thorne’s voice, a recorded, clinical judgment from the Lunar Hub. "The Phantom was the handshake. These Hunters are the extraction."

I had to find something I could do to make money that I could be discrete enough to accomplish without drawing the attention of the massive amount of people I managed to successfully piss off by means of killing the under-lord, Christian. That led to my current livelihood of being an assassin.
