Rocky's voice nagged from outside, accompanied by more persistent knocking.
The seconds stretched like hours. Jonas could hear his own breathing, could feel the weight of Phantom's stare, could practically count the heartbeats until she made her decision.
Then, slowly, Phantom lowered the gun.
"Consider this payment for looking after my little brother," she said, sliding the weapon beneath her leather jacket with the same fluid motion she'd used to draw it. She adjusted her black sunglasses, transforming back into just another beautiful woman in expensive clothes.
Payment. Like I'm some kind of babysitter.
