Seven Minutes in Heaven
My head swam, lightheaded from the shock, the cold, and the sheer terror.
I fumbled around in the darkness, my hands sweeping over the rough, damp floor of the pit. Debris, loose stones, splintered wood. Nothing solid, nothing to hold onto, no sturdy surface. The walls of the pit felt slick with moisture, crumbling under my hesitant touch, offering no purchase.
It was deep, too deep to climb out of, even if my leg weren't injured. The air grew stale, thick with the scent of stagnant water and decay.
A terrifying realization dawned on me: even if I could yell loud enough, who would come to this desolate place? No one knew I was here.
