It should’ve been sweet. But I was too exhausted to appreciate it. All I wanted to do was yell. Wasn’t the male lead supposed to be gentle? Why was Shawn acting like he was trying to win a match instead of romance? I had been stuck inside one of those vintage-era stories where the heroine is adored by everyone. The good news: I shared the exact same name as the heroine. Naturally, according to transmigration logic, I assumed I had become the female lead. In the book, the hero starts off dirt poor, then builds a business empire from scratch and falls for the heroine at first sight.

The world applauded two people who had ruined me. A laugh escaped me. It sounded ragged even in the tiny room. Of course they celebrated. Of course the hero and the victim would have their neat ending. Where did I fit into any of that? Discarded like last season’s dress. Exposed as the adopted girl, the conspiracy queen, the villain. Everyone loved a neat narrative—with its villain, its sweet heroine, its redemption arc for the man. Real life was messier. Real life left claws.

Her smile never quite reached her eyes; instead, they gleamed with a sharp, cruel delight, like a predator savoring the chase. The elegance of her face only made the wickedness more unsettling, every soft feature laced with a quiet promise of malice. She was beautiful, yes but in the way a poisonous flower is, inviting you closer even as it prepares to destroy you. She was the real villain. It wasn't Xander or Isabel or bluey in this case. Bianca was the type of person that destroys without letting you know. You have no say in what she does.

I chose to make Charlotte flawed because I wanted to take a different route to create her. A lot of the novels I’ve read online choose to make their female protagonists the epitome of what some people consider all the good qualities a woman should have: they are kind, relatable, selfless, sometimes to a fault. They let their antagonists step all over them until later on in the story, they gain confidence and step up to the situations life puts in their way.

She didn't believe it at all. But honestly, it didn't matter what that War Goddess looked like. Someone like that legendary figure couldn't be described with ordinary words anyway. [ IN WHICH SHE IS BITTER ] Every story has a protagonist, and also an antagonist— whom everyone refers to as the villain. However, in my story, I am unsure who holds the position of the protagonist and the antagonist. Even those that are expected to hold it, seem like they don't deserve it. I may be the heroine; the chief female character, since this is the story of my life, but I am not entirely sure about being a heroine. Because what sort of heroine has this much bad luck? What sort of heroine gets deceived and betrayed by her loved ones? What sort of heroine has people shooting arrows into her back? What sort of heroine is never able to obtain true happiness?

And the second, I’m laughing like a child who got the attention of his crush. Around her. I do feel like a fucking child. Everything I know and that I have gone disappears and I find myself Turing to find the right words. Trying to do the right thing. Should I mention how hard as fuck that is? I used to think righteous people were weak and that’s why they followed roles and had airtight principles. Now that I’m trying to not be a cruel bastard. I’m seeing how much harder it is to be good than to be bad. Being a villain or a scary alpha is the easiest route. And I guess that makes us fucking weak and not the other way around.
