The goal was to finish within the time limit with the highest accuracy. Rolling up her sleeves, Jodi’s competitive side kicked in. “Alright, this one’s my specialty. A successful film makes the audience carry the atmosphere into real life. “Why?” Rizki asked curiously. “Because Atha is really mean to Manda, I don't like Atha.” Syila shook her head. “Not really worth it, not worth it!”

Another photo depicted his mother with him. I surveyed his room and noticed an interesting detail: it looked more like a boy's room than I expected from someone like Trace. I spotted posters of anime series like One Piece and Naruto, suggesting that Trace had an affinity for anime at some point. There were other posters, possibly his favorite bands: Thirty Seconds of Mars, Simple Plan, Linkin Park, and Imagine Dragons. In one corner of the room, I noticed a stuffed toy of Doraemon, which made me smile. Because of that, childhood memories made me miss home.

When she got to the living room, she saw Bryce sprawled in the recliner, remote in hand as he flipped through footage of past baseball games. “Hey, Bryce,” she called. He looked up, his eyes warming in welcome. As he got up, he smiled broadly at her then held out his arms. She hugged him then made a show of feeling his ribs. “They don’t feed you in training camp?” she asked. He laughed. “You know damn well that all I ever do is eat. I think my tapeworms have tapeworms.” She glanced back to make sure they were still alone and then lowered her voice.

Meanwhile when Harley went to visit her grandmother all her grandmother wanted to talk about was Mikayla, so she thought Mikayla was everyone’s favorite. I almost laughed when she described herself as a loner and introvert. I didn’t believe it until she started talking about her favorite 90’s anime. It had a long complex name I won’t even attempt to recount. Something about teens piloting huge machines to fight alien angels, a “human instrumentality project”, and deep religious subtext. Anime is mainstream now, but back then it was still nerdy and obscure. We were so deep in conversation we walked right past her garage. When we made it back and she opened the rolling door I wasn’t surprised
