They glint in the light, and for a moment, I just stare at them, my chest tightening.
“Theo,” I whisper, my voice cracking. “Where did you get these?”
He shrugs, like it’s nothing. “I went into town earlier. Thought you might like them.”
I reach out, my fingers brushing against his palm as I take one.
The foil crinkles under my touch, and I can’t remember the last time I held something like this. Something sweet, something just for me.
“Thank you,” I say, my voice barely above a whisper.
He watches me as I unwrap it, his gaze steady. I pop the chocolate into my mouth, and the taste is overwhelming—rich and bitter and sweet all at once.
