Kai bowed in respect to the healer and spoke. “I’m not sure what has happened, he just started screaming in pain,” Kai explained. Walking around the altar with the healer as he examines Kane’s body. Kane was still withering in pain, but no sound was coming from his mouth. “He’s been poisoned,” The healer states quietly as he bends down to touch a red substance that's sprinkled near the altar. “Fire salt,” Kai roared. There was a collective gasp going around the room.

The healer said and I nodded. I know she did well, I saw it ,how she was strong and even against someone impossible. She got her wish of wanting the pack to accept her as the Luna, everyone did, that I was sure of. What mattered to me the most was her health, "Please check on her." I begged the healer. The healer checked her and let out a gasp, I stared at her in confusion wondering what the heck was wrong with Leila. "She was poisoned again." The healer said.

“May it rot where it lies.” “Wait.” One of the healers said as she got up from her knees. “It isn't the culprit.” All eyes turned to face her. “What do you mean?” one of the elders asked. The healer motioned to the wolf's mouth and front paws. “The symptoms are plain — it has been poisoned to death. The same poison that is also killing Alpha Gideon.” There was a gasp in the room as my mother’s face paled. “What?” she whispered. The healer nodded firmly. “It's just another victim of the crisis.” My mother gasped as her hand lifted over to her mouth. Tears welled in her eyes. “No… no, no….”She shook her head, stepping backwards.

Each breath was still a struggle, coming out in short, painful gasps. "I was... trying to help," I whispered to no one in particular. "Help?" the mother's voice cut through the crowd. "You call murdering my daughter help?" "I am... I am a healer," I gasped weakly. "I save... I save people..." "You are nothing but a cursed monster," she spat back. "Just like your mate." The words hit me like physical blows. My vision kept sliding in and out of focus, consciousness threatening to slip away entirely.

I’m placed on the bed and I can feel him watching me, his fingers combing my hair off my face. Then he sighs quietly and I hear him move away. “I purchased some food from Drake’s Chicken Place. It was poisoned, get to the bottom of it for me.” His voice is icy as he speaks through the phone. I can’t hear what the other person is saying, but Zion is pacing now. “From what it looks like it does appear to be one of the Arkan’s own poisons, 2OX-Z1. I’m certain of it.”

“Elena, we agreed to turn down the accusations, didn’t we?” “Accusations? Thank goodness the healer is coming here right now. I could tell it was the poison eating my inside. I had ignored it and forced it down but now that I wasn’t moving, it surged back with brutal intensity. One of the women healers came out of the delivery room, approaching me cautiously. “The lady Alpha said you’re affected too. You need to get treatment” “Is my Luna…” My stomach clenched painfully for a while before I continued “Is she okay?” “Alpha Keres! You’ve been poisoned too. The Luna wouldn’t cooperate and kept talking about you” “Then go attend to her! I need you all there and not here.”

I forced a smile that vanished as quickly as it appeared on my face. "That makes sense." He agreed and I thought that would be all but I was wrong. Totally. "Do you ever get confused by the herbs? I mean, they look very much alike in my eyes. How do you know which is poison and which can kill? Also which to give for particular illnesses?" He asked like a child who knew nothing about life. I wanted to ask him if he had never seen a healer before then I remembered I was the last healer they'd killed or tried to kill.

I had to eat first for her to feel safe enough to eat, and only after I had fed her, did she begin eating hungrily. I was able to lure her to eat and I tried making her stay afterwards but she was determined. She hadn't noticed that I was here rather than on the mission and I was happy about that until she asked. I heard a report from the men that she wasn't doing too well but I know her stubbornness won't let it stay. They all expressed their concern to her current state, as the poison was what was wrong. I had asked the doctor to keep her healing ability a secret, it's only those who gave the poison that would know she can't heal or doesn't have her normal strength.
