For a moment, I heard only leaves moving in the warm air and the distant murmur of Capital water pretending it had never belonged to the sea.
“I am sworn to House Hades,” I said, my voice firm.
“I know,” Ismene replied softly, her tone calm and understanding.
“He is married,” I added, sharper this time, as if the words themselves might cut the truth away.
“I know,” she said again, her voice steady, without judgment.
“He is Lord Poseidon,” I pressed, the weight of it heavy in my chest.
