Giving him a sluggish smile, I stood on the tips of my toes and placed a kiss on his cheek for the praise. "Seriously, Eve. Seeing you take control like that, speaking up for the things you want and believe in...you're exactly where you need to be.”

I nodded, walking forward. “You asked to see me?” “Yes,” he replied, gesturing to the chair in front of his desk. “Sit,” he said, and I did. “First of all,” he began, “I want to thank you—for everything you did out there. You showed courage, strength, and the kind of resolve that takes others years to build. You should be proud of yourself.” I blinked, caught off guard by his praise. “Thank you, Alpha,” I said, not able to contain the smile that spread across my face.

“You’ve done well for yourself, Scarlett. And I’m proud of you.” The words hit me harder than I expected. Praise wasn’t something I was used to. In fact, I couldn’t remember the last time someone had said they were proud of me without mocking me afterward. Heat rose in my cheeks, and I lowered my gaze, embarrassed by how much it meant. “I’ve never really… been praised for anything,” I admitted quietly. “Not in a way that made me feel like it mattered.” His expression softened further. “It matters now.” I smiled then, small but genuine, clutching my laptop against my chest. For the first time in so long, I felt good. I felt capable.

I reply. “Wh—where’s this coming from?” he's visibly shaken by the sudden flattery. Ah, why do you think people praise one another? It’s in order to raise them up even higher so it’s easier to knock their feet out from under them and drag them down from their pedestal! This is known as death-by-praise. "You’re talented and have so much, and yet you wanna take this library from me, who got nothing?! Aren't you ashamed?!” I spit out, pointing at him angerly.

I forgot that this jerk is here. “No way I will be glad to work with you! If I'm going to work with an airhead arrogant jerk like you. Never. Never I will be glad” I said while glaring at him. I can't stand the thickness of this man's face. That's what happened, when people praised him so much that he became so arrogant and thick-faced. I don't understand folks either, why praised a person so much just because of their appearance? Why people stan a person as of it was a god. Why don't they stan and pray to god everyday, for them to be atleast spiritual. They stan a person, but some of them don't stan god—don't believe in god. Great!

Even my friends had noticed it. I pretend to be dumbfounded and ask, "What is it?" He closes his eyes for a moment and says, "I've always admired the way you treat people especially because you've been so nice to me even though I have done something wrong to you. It was your good heart that made me want you to become mine. I love the way you laugh when I make a joke and I definitely miss the way how we used to be. What I want to say is I love you, Taylor."
