I still believed that God answers prayers. “Let's pray for her,” I said, making Esther lift her head off my shoulder. She nodded in agreement, and I held her hand in mine, stretching the other one towards Ethan, who looked lost. He placed his hand in mine anyway, and I closed my eyes. “Heavenly Father, we're here today on behalf of your daughter who needs your divine healing. We pray that you heal her and forgive her sins.”

He was the only one she trusted other than Gray. She went on to explain how she had called on the goddess, and she had appeared but given her strict instructions that she had to be with Gray at midnight if he was to win the tournament.

Out of embarrassment and nervousness, I begin to feel my own plate with food. And out of the corner of my eye, I watch her mumble a few words of prayer before she begins eating. An act that makes me smile. it's an act that reminds me that I am a Christian and I ought to give thanks to the Lord at every chance I get. Hence, I also close my eyes and mumble words of appreciation to God for provision of the meal and for bringing Esther to me. Once we're done eating, "Thank you for the meal. " Esther says as she rises to her feet.
