“Her power… It’s awakening.” Granny’s eyes widened as she watched the light grow, its soft warmth filling the room, enveloping them in its embrace. Symbols began to appear within the glow, ancient and mysterious, swirling around Ariana’s skin in complicated patterns that seemed to shimmer with life before fading gently. It was as though the symbols themselves were alive, carrying a message from some forgotten time.

When the midwife lifted her, the room fell into a terrified hush. The girl was small, but it was not her size that stopped the hearts of those in the room. It was her skin. On her chest, directly over her heart, and across the span of her tiny back, symbols were etched into her flesh. They were not birthmarks; they were brands, glowing with a faint, amber luminescence that pulsed in time with the lightning outside. On her chest, the sign of the crab—♋. I dragged myself up and went to see what was going on reluctantly. “Come with me.” She said in an excited voice and led us to the back of the tree where a huge symbol was engraved. A four-petalled flower. Each of the red petals contained a symbol; a dragon, a werewolf, two witches. The only difference between this symbol and the symbol of code red was the Heart of magic in the center. Her eyes lit up as she said, “Isn’t this symbol self-explanatory.” Zarina, Aslan, and Caleb looked at her dumbfounded. To be honest even I didn’t know what we were supposed to do with this symbol.

If you looked closely, the eleven figures in the darkness had rings on each of their fingers. And the rings also seemed to symbolize animals or something strange. For them, it was probably a symbol of their position and status within the group. But strangely, the figure sitting between the ten figures had black eyes with red eyeballs. She spread the pictures on top of her desk and pointed to a symbol that looked like a tree, the branches spread out above it encasing the tree.

The orb suddenly splits open with a sound like a scream, a swirl of dark smoke bursts out and races across the ceiling. Students scream and Professors chant hurried spells. The black smoke twists, shifts, curls… then forms a symbol in the air. A mark I’ve never seen before, shaped like a broken circle with a single slash straight through it. The room goes dead silent. “It’s a precursor mark,” a professor whispers in terror, “It means something is coming,” another answers, trembling. Something snaps inside me again, not fear but recognition. My name being in the orb has been an unusual thing and now this. Kael turns to me sharply with a question in his eyes.

Luna scanned their surroundings, her mind frantically trying to piece together the puzzle. And then, her eyes landed on a peculiar symbol etched into the wall of the corridor – a crescent moon intertwined with a rose. "The symbol…" Luna whispered, her voice barely audible. The drawings on them are intricate. Ancient. Symbols swirl across the pages like living patterns. I step closer to the table. The parchments are covered in old ink drawings. My eyes narrow. “What are these?” Eira traces the moon symbol with one gnarled finger. “This,” she says quietly, “represents the Moon bloodline.” Then she taps the eclipse. “And this represents the Eclipse bloodline.”
