Damon turned at the sound, catching me, and I quickly squeezed my eyes shut again, burrowing under the blanket in an effort to trick him.
A little while later, as I was enjoying the warmth beneath the covers, Damon leaned close, his breath brushing against my ear. “Pretender, I know you’re awake. You just don’t want to get out of bed,” he whispered before poking his fingers into my ribs, making me yelp.
“Remember to bring an umbrella to work. They said on the radio a storm’s on its way,” he added.
“I’m not going,” I said with a fake groan, even adding a pitiful cough for effect.
