Isa had persistent trouble staying focused the rest of the week. She couldn't tell if she was dreading the approaching Friday... or anticipating it. The size of the class dwindled significantly. Readings were lengthy, assignments rigorous, but Isa found the subject fascinating. And as intimidating as he was, Professor Ashford was a captivating and charismatic lecturer. He was extremely well-versed and knowledgeable in his field, warranting his many accolades and respect amongst peers. The week flew by, Isa almost forgetting about their post-class encounter on the first day...

“Good morning, class. I’m Sebastian Wolfe, your new history professor.” My head snapped up, my heart stopping. There, at the podium, stood Sebastian—my Sebastian. His dark brown hair was neat, his green eyes piercing, his black blazer hugging his broad shoulders. He was impossibly handsome, his presence commanding, but his gaze found mine, and shock flashed across his face, mirroring my own. My mouth went dry, my notebook slipping from my hands. His dark brown hair was neatly styled, and his gentle gaze encompassed us all. He had gentle features yet there was something about him that attracted me to him. “Good morning, everyone,” he began, setting his materials down on the desk. His voice was deep and smooth, with just a hint of an accent that I couldn’t quite place. “I’m Professor Farid Reign, and I’ll be guiding you through Advanced Theoretical Physics this semester. We’re going to delve into the complexities of quantum mechanics, explore the difficulties of string theory, and discuss the latest developments in cosmology.”

Reads Neruda aloud in afternoon lectures in a voice that does things to the inside of my chest that have absolutely nothing to do with poetry appreciation and everything to do with the fact that I am twenty-six years old and doing my Masters degree and sitting in the third row every Tuesday and Thursday specifically because the third row is where the light from the tall windows hits his face in a way that makes it difficult to concentrate on anything he's saying.

"Before we begin the test, let me do some introductions, next to me are Professors Robert, James and Will, all of the esteemed professors' research fields are in mathematics, so they will be the ones testing you on this one." “Sure. What do you need?” “I’m interested in Professor Elena Thompson’s lectures,” Ren said smoothly. “She gave a fascinating talk this morning, and I’d like to know if she’s teaching any upcoming seminars or classes that are open to visitors.” The man smiled, clearly pleased by the interest. “Professor Thompson does have a talent for captivating an audience,” he said. “She’s leading a seminar on comparative mythology next week. It’s a bit niche, but if you’re interested in folklore, it’s worth attending.”

The halls are a bit quiet, with only two to three students pacing the corridors. "Four." Azalea peaked inside, noticing the semi-empty classroom. She's sure she counted about ten students. Her eyes then landed on her professor. He's dressed like any other male professor. Khaki pants, white button up, circular glasses, all the usual. Only thing that's different about him and the others is that he's got just a few strands of grey and he looks like the gym's best friend. He set the marker down and turned to the class. He looked around and asked me to bend my head so no one could hear us. “Dr Tona got fired.” A gasp fell from my lips and I felt a sick sense of joy in my heart. “Really? What happened?” “Well, let’s just say she messed with the wrong person. Apparently, someone reported her for begging lecturers to change Rami’s grades.” That was absolutely scandalous. “Wow.” I snorted “Wow is right.” Some people just gave women a bad name. “So, who’s taking her course now?” “It’s supposed to be Professor Jared but he’s currently not around.” My heart skipped a beat at the mention of his name. I couldn’t help the blush that coloured my cheeks.

Kyle stood in the entrance hall of Columbia University. How useful, he thought, for them to display all the faculty members neatly on the wall like that. Kyle scanned the row of photographs, some depicting smiling faces, other studious faces, all in black and white. He read the names, each as innocuous as the last.
