Like someone I should know but didn’t. A sudden pain shot through my shoulder, making me gasp. I turned slightly, pulling down the loose neckline of my shirt to look. My heart stopped. There, just below my neck and stretching towards my shoulder, was a mark. A faint glowing crescent shape, pulsing softly under my skin like living fire. “What… what is that?” I whispered to myself, my voice shaking.

His movements were practiced and gentle. After shifting the fabric aside, he studied my shoulder in silence. A long sigh escaped him. "Your shoulder is red... and swollen." His fingertips carefully explored the injured area. Every single poke shot straight through my shoulder and into my chest, making my jaw clench so tightly my teeth almost creaked. The pain was sharp enough to leave my vision swimming for a second. His lips pressed into a thoughtful line as he continued examining the joint. "Technically, the swelling should have gone down by now."

I winced the minute I felt another pain but from my shoulder. Fuck you, Carlos! I looked at my shoulder where the bandage is. It has a little blood on it. I looked down at my ribs. The bandage around it has blood on it as well.

He touched his shoulder only to realise that he was bleeding heavily and the crimson liquid went unnoticed till now due to the black of the shirt he was wearing. He was feeling a buzzing sensation around his shoulder blade which he ignored. But after around ten seconds, a burning and achy pain set in, making him grunt. His eyebrows were drawn together while his eyes were squeezed. His lips parted and his muscles were tensed, trying to escape the immense pain. That damned bullet might have penetrated a few of his muscle layers, or maybe that bullet was embedded in the infraspinatus muscle. The pain was so agonising that he wished he could pass out to stop it. "Fuck!" He cursed under his breat

The air began to run out, my vision blurred, and my mind gave way, shutting down. The cold penetrated my bones, and my body shuddered uncontrollably, slowly bringing me back to my harsh reality. My muscles were so tense that my whole body was numb. My fingers throbbed as if they were about to explode, and painful currents extended from there to my arms, joining on the left side with the pain that consumed my shattered shoulder.

“God—” My hand flew to my temple, fingers pressing hard like I could hold my head together, like it wasn’t about to split open. The movement tugged at something else, and a sharp, tearing ache ripped through my shoulder. “Holy shit!“ I cussed under my breath, gripping my shoulder. The ache slowly spread from my shoulder down my arm in a hot, throbbing wave, stealing the strength from my fingers. My arm sagged uselessly at my side, heavy and wrong.

Or are they scared? No matter how hard I try, I cannot look up because my shoulder blades hurt like hell. I have no idea why and why it feels as if I am carrying something heavy on my back. Everyone seems to be getting their eyes from my direction as if looking at me hurts them. It does not make sense.

I could imagine it would be like this lying on a large glass marble; perhaps at first it would be pleasant yet soon it would be just like this pain of mine. The ache is a dull, as if some lazy torturer is standing right behind me, only applying enough pressure to be an annoyance. It sits there, just to the side of the right shoulder blade toward the spine.
