"Cuddle him and he'll stop squirming." Cuddle him. I need a large deep hole to jump into. I glance toward Axel whose watching me with a sly grin. Beck and Labyrinth share the joke too with a few snickers. Here goes nothing. I lift the kitten higher and put him between my jaw and shoulder. A few seconds later, he calms and begins purring. Inside was a pile of blankets… and a litter of kittens. I cooed and rushed to the little fence immediately as five or six tiny balls of fur on legs started hopping towards me. Their little triangle-tails stuck straight up and they gave high-pitched mewls as they tumbled towards me. “They’re so cute!” Leaning my crutches on the wire sides of the enclosure, I reached awkwardly over the low gate to pick up a little tabby who purred immediately and rubbed its face on my nose when I leaned in to kiss it.

I was in awe of their courage, and I thanked them with all my heart. The pack gathered around me, and I told them what had happened. They were amazed by the bravery of the mother cat and her kitten, and they praised them for their actions. The kitten walked up to me, and I bent down to pet it. It purred loudly, rubbing its head against my hand. I smiled, a feeling of peace settling over me. I knew that I had made a new friend, and that the pack was safe. I named the kitten Lucky, and it became a beloved member of our pack.
