I stagger back, vision swimming, and Knox is suddenly in front of me, empty bucket in his hand, eyes wide.
“Move,” I roar, trying to shove past him. “He needs to die!”
“He’s dead,” Knox shouts, planting both hands on my chest. “We’ve been yelling your name for minutes, brother. You were gone. He died around the fifth time you smashed his skull in. Took cold water to snap you out of it.”
I blink, chest heaving, and finally look down.
James isn’t a man anymore. He’s a crumpled, unrecognisable heap of meat and bone. His head is caved in, one eye missing, jaw hanging by threads, blood and brain matter pooled around what’s left of his face.
