“We keep our personal lives private,” James replied, his voice like ice.
Jada’s eyes lingered on Ava, her gaze assessing. “How lovely,” she said finally. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Ava. I’m Jada Johnson—an old friend of James’s.”
“Old friend,” Ava echoed, forcing a smile. “It’s nice to meet you.”
Jada’s laugh was soft and melodic, but there was an edge to it. “I’ll admit, I’m a little hurt. James and I go way back, and he didn’t even invite me to the wedding. I suppose it must have been a whirlwind romance?”
