Swirling a glass of champagne in my hand, I stood elegantly directly under the spotlight.
The hideous scars on my right arm, left from smashing that glass, were now covered by an exquisite tattoo of black vines and thorns.
That was my medal, the proof of my rebirth from the ashes.
Now, I was a queen controlling the lifeblood of major raw mines across West Africa and Europe.
When I finished the bidding and walked down the steps surrounded by the crowd, an uninvited guest blocked my path.
