“It’s not that simple, Doug. There’s so much he’s not telling me, and I’m not sure I can trust him completely.”
“Trust isn’t about having all the answers,” Doug said, leaning back in his chair. “It’s about believing in the person, even when things get messy.”
His words lingered in Odette’s mind long after the game ended and Doug left. As much as she wanted to deny it, she couldn’t ignore the truth in what he’d said.
That evening, Anton returned looking more exhausted than ever. He loosened his tie as he stepped into the living room, his shoulders slumping slightly. Odette was waiting for him, a glass of whiskey in hand.
