Crows.
Dozens of them.
They came from nowhere, black wings filling the sky, screaming as they dove straight at the Vatrish men. Beaks struck eyes. Claws raked faces.
Men shouted, cursed, stumbled back, swinging uselessly.
Zayla pressed her hand to the window, heart pounding.
“What…?” she whispered.
The men swung wildly, trying to drive the crows away.
It didn’t work.
The birds only attacked harder—claws tearing, wings beating, black shapes crashing into faces and armor. Shouts filled the courtyard as soldiers stumbled back, slipping on snow and blood.
