Quotes Valentine's Day Novels & Stories

Today was Valentine's Day, and I wanted my husband to take a day off. "Stay home with me," I said. "Valentine's Day is the best time to make money," he replied, turning away. As he stepped out the door, he casually reminded me, "Call me if anything happens." I had planned to wait for him to come back, but at some point, I drifted off to sleep. When I woke, it wasn't to the sound of him returning—it was the pain that pulled me out of my daze. Cold sweat soaked my face as I gasped for air.

“Patrick, what have you arranged for your employees for Valentine’s Day?” asked Timothy. Patrick replied smiling, “Victoria suggested that we give the ladies the rose and a chocolate slab together with a little card wishing them a happy Valentine’s Day, just to put a smile on their faces. The gentlemen will stand at the entrance of the company, and then they will hand out the goodies to the ladies when they arrive at the company. Also, I have given all the ladies a half day's leave to celebrate Valentine’s Day with their loved ones. What have you arranged, Timothy?”

She covered her face, tears seeping through her pale fingers. "This is your first heartfelt gift to me. I'll treasure it and keep it close always." "Haha..." Chloe laughed and cried like a madwoman. —It was all bullshit lies! "Chloe, tomorrow, I'll give you a Valentine's Day you'll never forget. Trust me!" Indeed, of all the countless things he had said, perhaps only that one sentence was true. It was definitely a different Valentine's Day, one she would likely never forget, one that would be etched into her bones and soul.

Her question swiveled my head in her direction, there was a sad smile tugging her lips as she spoke. “...did you know yesterday was Valentine’s Day?” My expression stared back blankly, for facts I had no idea. Those dates were meant for lovers to remember. “I’m sorry you had to go through that especially on such a day where love is meant to be shared and gifts received” “It’s okay, no need to apologize...” I trailed off as a thought struck me hard. Gifts received? Does that mean...yesterday’s package was a Valentine’s gift from Nicklaus? If that’s true then I thought wrong of his intentions still, there’s no point accepting such an expensive gift from someone I’m trying to escape.

He smiled, which is starting to irritate me because time is running. I exasperatedly said, "Tell me!" He chuckled before nodding, then put on a poker face, "Remember 3rd grade?" 3rd grade? "3rd grade?" He nodded before saying with this look in his face, "February 14, that valentine's day." Shockingly, I did remember what happened on that day. And people, that look just shouted Flashback time! FLASHBACK, FEBRUARY 14, 2006: "Good morning Mertano Elem. Students! It's time to smile, grin, wink, or even hug the one you love! It's Valentine's day and that means the day you'll show your courtesy to someone!..."

“Oh! We need to prepare for the new boss. He is taking over today. There is a lot to organize.” “Yes,” I said, nodding. “I will get on it.” As she walked away, voices floated through the air, laughter following them. Someone mentioned Valentine’s Day. February 14th. Lovers’ Day. Tacha joked loudly about how every married house would be full of moaning tonight. Another laughed and said she planned to exhaust her husband before midnight. Then my colleague came back, grinning mischievously. “Seraphina,” she said, lowering her voice, “tell me, do you have something special planned for your husband tonight? Any dress that will make him want to eat you alive?”

It turned out the one who should have been apologizing was not me. My hand clenched around my purse until my knuckles went white. My gaze slowly swept across the young woman's guilty, helpless face before landing on the garish blue stones glinting at her earlobes. I smirked. "Your earrings are beautiful, Ms. Yates. Did your boyfriend give them to you? They must be expensive." Last month on Valentine's Day, I stumbled across Victor's purchase history. One pure gold bracelet and one pair of sapphire earrings.

“But you don’t have to get me anything, Carl. It’s fine. Really. “Come on, it's not.” “Do you really have to get me something?” Carl leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table. “Of course I have to,” he said with a little grin. “I mean, Darius isn’t around, and he’ll probably not get you anything since he doesn’t even know. Let me tell you something about this school. On Valentine’s day, couples get pretty personal. You know how it is here, with all the rich students trying to outdo each other with fancy gifts and surprises.”

The clock struck midnight, and the air buzzed with the soft, sweet scent of roses wafting through my open window. Valentine's Day. Lovers’ Day. A day meant for chocolates, kisses, and promises whispered in candlelight. A day that should’ve felt special—romantic, even. But instead, I was alone in my apartment, sitting on the edge of my bed, staring at the quiet screen of my phone.
