The Billionaire's Debt-Bride
We were a zeroed-out billionaire and a printer’s daughter, drifting into a dead zone, and yet, this felt like the only real thing I’d ever owned.
I slipped out of the locker at 03:00 AM. The ship was a ghost, the only sound the rhythmic, bone-deep thrum of the engines. I moved through the narrow companionways, my feet silent on the metal grating.
The radio room was perched just below the bridge. Through the small, salt-filmed window, I could see one of the moles. He was wearing noise canceling headphones, his face illuminated by the green glow of a spectrum analyzer. He was focused on the external pings, waiting for the satellite handshake that would never come.
