(900 AD – Before the Separation of Kingdoms) In the year 900 AD, before the Norse kingdoms split apart, there was one kingdom feared above all, Vikron. Its warriors were brutal. Their culture, violent. Yet, they were united. And at the center of that unity stood one man King Ragnor, named after the god of thunder himself. Ragnor led with blood and fire. His people raided distant lands, conquering village after village.

KING RAGNAR LOTHBROK and his crew were away for nearly six months when they returned, bearing news of their triumphant raid. The people of Kattegat sang their praises, welcoming their beloved warriors back to town with jubilant cheers. Sophie stood beside Helen and the other slaves, a little away from the boisterous crowd, observing the Lothbrok family's reunion. Rollo's absence was notable, considering he was renowned as one of the best warriors. She watched the famous priest, Athelstan, whom she had yet to meet, warmly greet Queen Aslaug and Ivar, a display of affection that made Sophie wonder if she would ever hold them in such high regard.

“There’s more to the story though, much more. I would encourage you to visit my bookstore soon so we can discuss in detail.” “You see,” Mr. Pendergast added, “I need your assistance, Mr. Haraldsson. My daughter’s life may depend on it.” Bjorn, befuddled, swung his eyes from one man to the other. Mr. Rosewood then added, “Mr. Haraldsson, you come from a long line of Vikings, famous Nordic warriors of old. They lived at a time when people believed in magic, powerful gods, and dangerous monsters. Nearly every Viking was a fierce warrior. The question before us is, are you a warrior as well?”

I say, telling him just small bits of the gods. “That is a lot of gods.” He says, and I nod my head. “So you are named after one of them?” He asks. “Yes. I am.” I say and smile. “Do every one of your people value wolves?” He asks. “Most fear them because of an old prophecy, that the wolf Fenris one day will kill Odin and start Ragnarok,” I tell him. “Ragnarok?” He asks and sounds interested. “Everything will be dark, cold, full of ice and snow.” I tell him and he looks at me.

"I demand that you don't lose contact with that man, Lizzie, and take steps one by one, but more intelligently. Don't let what happened with the wretch Jarl repeat itself." Lizzie bites her lower lip while thinking about what her mother said. Ragnar is a very handsome, mature, chivalrous, intelligent man, but undoubtedly, his best quality is that he's excessively wealthy, and his pack is one of the largest and most prosperous in the world. She loses nothing by trying to have a conversation or two with him to see how far she can go.

On the outskirts of Thorne Maddox’s pack, a group of seventeen rogues rested around a dim fire, their tents and few belongings cast in shadows behind them. Ragnar, the leader of the small band, leaned against a fallen tree trunk, his sharp eyes scanning the camp and its people. Their living conditions were far from ideal, but they had managed well despite it all. They had refused to cower before Thorne, and each of them had lost one or more loved ones to his relentless expansion, enslaving those he deemed refugees and rogues. Ragnar hated the fact that Thorne couldn’t accept the idea that some people simply wanted to be free, unbound by any alpha or rigid leadership.
