It had been temporarily converted by her people into a makeshift laboratory. On the table were several dark purple-black stones, samples she had collected near the Vinterfall spring. Under the lamplight, their surfaces shimmered with a mysterious violet hue, emanating an ominous aura. Lyra donned gloves and carefully split one of the stones with a hammer. Inside, its core revealed spiral-like veins that seemed to emit a dim, sinister glow.

A low growl echoed from the shadows. Out of the dark came a Guardian—a stone golem brought to life by ancient spells. It was seven feet tall, made of river rock and moss, with eyes that glowed a dull red.

"What are all these sparkly rocks in the walls?" Brodi's lips turned up at her description but he pointed to different green, white and multi-colored stones as they passed. "Mostly, there is Wyoming Jade, Moonstone, and Opals. Years ago, we would sell some for cash, but now we only mine the most beautiful one for gifts and jewelry occasionally." Liv skimmed her fingers along the walls. She'd never been much of a jewelry girl, but she had an affinity for Moonstones and Opals. Rain handed sparklers to the children, who squealed with delight as they waved them around, tracing glowing patterns in the dark. “Ready for the big finale?” Rain asked, holding up a box of fireworks. “Yeah!” the twins shouted in unison, bouncing with excitement. Zyrielle leaned against the porch railing, watching as Rain set up the fireworks. She couldn’t help but smile. This was what she had fought for, a life of peace, love, and family. The first firework shot into the sky, bursting into a cascade of golden sparks. The children clapped and cheered, their faces glowing with awe. "That was the point." I reached into my pocket and pulled out a small leather bag. Inside were five stones—clear crystals with swirling blue cores. "Moon tears," Celeste gasped. "They're incredibly rare!" "And the only thing that can counter The Mother's black stone," I explained, giving one to each twin. "When she tries to possess you, these will protect your minds." Orion turned the rock in his hand. "You knew this would happen. You knew about us." "I've known since before you were born," I admitted.

Caitlin said, laughing as they raced downhill. “Don’t worry,” Polly said, out of breath, running beside her, “I have one for you.” “What about me?” Scarlet chimed in. “I want one, too!” Ruth barked. “And so does Ruth!” Polly laughed.
