Raven stepped into the library, looking at the mounds and mounds and stacks and shelves of books all around her. She could not remember one time ever seeing a library as boundless as this one. She walked alongside the stacks and started reading the types of books that were included in this library. She found there were books of all the creatures in the land. There were books about caster magic, human magic, the magic animals, the bitten, the history of the bitten and many many many other books. She took an interest in a thick, black, leather book, pulling it off of the shelf she noticed the dust being disturbed as the large book slid off of its place and her hands. Dust in the air as she wal

a plain, simple office. Still, I'm curious. I wander over to the bookshelves, surprised to see how many books Rafe has - he never struck me as much of a reader - but his collection is wide and varied. There's an entire shelf full of classic novels. Another of photography and art books. There's a section devoted to mechanical skills, another full of books on fitness, weight-training, and other similar pursuits. The more I look, the more interesting the books become - next to the atlases and travel guides are books on astronomy and space travel. Beside the books on filmmaking are biographies of famous people from all walks of life - not just Hollywood types but also philosophers, scientists, a

he muttered as he gingerly lifted the book and caressed the title – Alpha Ancestry. “Alpha Ancestry,” Rah whispered as he looked at the handsome red book with gold-coated letters on top of it. “I have never even heard of this book.” “How would you have heard, even I have not!” Arthur laughed. “But I have read most of the library downstairs,” Rah added. “You, well, you … have not …” he trailed off. “You have read most of the library? There must be a thousand books down there,” Arthur spoke in shock.

she asked us while looking at us with big eyes. “Yeah, Jericho, mind linking’s rude when we have company,” Rafael said and I glared at him for a second. I was at a loss for words so I stood up and walked back to the living room. I saw that Zara and Liam had joined Harper and Slade. I flopped down on the couch and closed my eyes again as I heard Storm and Rafael in the kitchen. “In the books, the Alphas are always broody and macho, that part seems to be true,” Storm said and Rafael laughed.

He continued shouting “I am not pointing my finger at you. I’m scared for you, Kate. Don’t you know what kind of guys they are? Jacob, Freddie, bloody Ace... don’t you know about them?” Ralph turned to Edwin, growling “You should’ve stopped her. She is our friend, Ed. Speak now, at least.” When Edwin kept quiet, Ralph continued “Oh yes, I forgot that you’ve made friends in that opponent gang. You became friends with that disgusting Ace.” Edwin spoke “Ralph, Ace is not that bad. We misunderstood him.” Ralph let out a sarcastic laugh hearing him and then spoke “They always torture us but you say they are bloody saints?”

She turned the yellowed pages, running her finger over the black embossed words. "I'll take history," Casper announced grabbing the first book his hands landed on. He rested it against his chest, pacing the room as he flicked through the pages, sighing at every page turn. Gage opted for the Lycan section. Lena war and battles and Serena diaries of the royals. I went to the section on leadership and Alphas. Hours passed. The pile of discarded books in the middle of the room grew bigger and bigger as the books yet to read dwindled. Blake still tapped furiously at the laptop he rested on a small reading table. Lena joined Casper in sighing after each page turn.

Roman asked me. Confident that he would not have read it, I told him. Roman snorted derisively. “Sarah J. Maas is evidence that the traditional publishing industry is full of rubbish. Those novels are the literary equivalent of eating Cadbury chocolate for dinner.” “That’s not fair,” I said. “If you sit down and read them…” “I have read all four books,” Roman interrupted. “Including that Frost and Starlight novella nonsense. I can assure you my opinion is well-founded indeed. To begin, the riddle in the first book is so simplistic that—”

“Books don’t talk back. They don’t expect small talk. I like the order. And the stories. What about you? History major with a focus on obscure trade? That’s not common.” I shrugged even though he couldn’t see it. “I like knowing how people lived before everything got loud. Plus, it’s an excuse to hide in here. Away from parties and drama.” “Smart girl,” he murmured. The way he said it made my stomach flip. Time passed. Maybe twenty minutes. We talked about everything and nothing. My terrible roommate. His awful coffee from the faculty lounge. How the basement always felt colder than the rest of the building. Our voices got softer, more comfortable. The dark made it easier somehow. Like we we

“You’re playing with something you don’t understand.” The voice wasn’t Kael’s this time. It came from the doorwaysoft, tired, and all too knowing. Rory. She looked pale, shadows bruised beneath her eyes. “That book smells like death.” “Most useful things do.” “What are you doing with it?” I paused, then smiled. “Reading.” “Liar.” She stepped closer, her look hard. “You think I don’t know what that is? The Rite of Reclamation. It’s banned even among your kind.”
